What Listening to Her Favorite Song Taught Me About Intimacy
May 30, 2025
A few weeks ago, it was raining in Nashville.
Paige and I both love the rain.
I had just wrapped up my early morning workout when I sent her a simple text:
“Good morning babe. It’s a beautiful rainy day.”
Nothing profound. Just a moment. A quiet touchpoint.
She replied almost instantly, telling me she was playing “Something Sexy About the Rain” by Kenny Chesney — a song she always plays when it rains.
Now… I’m not a Kenny Chesney guy.
But I could feel how much it meant to her.
So I leaned in. I found the song. And I hit play.
The Difference Between Hearing… and Listening Through Her Ears
As I listened, I didn’t just hear music — I heard her.
The lyrics. The mood. The feeling it created inside her.
I could suddenly see the moment through her lens.
And it moved something in me.
A few minutes later, I pulled out my phone and made a decision.
Flights booked.
Surprise screenshot sent.
We were going to see Kenny Chesney — live at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
This Isn’t About Grand Gestures.
It’s About Paying Attention.
This story isn’t shared to promote buying your wife’s happiness.
It’s about noticing the small things that matter to her —
and choosing curiosity over judgment.
Because when I saw her that night —
dancing, smiling, singing at the top of her lungs —
That was the reward.
That’s what grounded men want:
To see the woman they love relax, radiate, and come alive.
To know we helped create that moment for her.
For the Men Reading This:
When your wife shares something — a song, a memory, a small detail —
Don’t dismiss it. Don’t say, “That’s not my thing.”
Pause.
Lean in.
Get curious.
Ask yourself:
“What if this is a doorway into her world?”
You don’t have to understand it yet.
You just have to care that she does.
For the Women:
Let yourself be known.
Even if it feels vulnerable.
Even if you’ve been shut down before.
He can’t enter your world if you don’t open the door.
It’s his job to listen.
But it’s your job to share.
Bit by bit.
Song by song.
So he can build a life with you — not just around you.
